So my daughter is a twin. When you have twins, I found out that they like to label the twins A and B. My daughter was twin B and her brother of course was twin A. They were born 3 minutes apart and couldn't be more different.

Welcome to the NICU Life

I don't know if there is anything that can prepare you for having a child in the NICU. The last thing that you expect after giving birth is to be told that your child has been taken to the NICU. Of course in my case, I knew that this was a possibility, however I hoped that it wouldn't happen.

Our Journey Begins

So how did we get here? Well, it’s been quite a journey. When I found out that I was pregnant I was so excited and overjoyed. Then when I found out I was having twins I was even more excited. I had always wanted to have twins, a boy and a girl and that was exactly what I was having!

Hey there! Welcome to Beyond the Walls: Life Unscripted. I'm Kara, a mom of 8-year-old twins who both have special needs. My daughter has a lot of medical issues and is delayed in all areas, while my son has Autism, ADHD, fine motor delays, and asthma. Every day is an adventure for us, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
