Hey there! Welcome to Beyond the Walls: Life Unscripted. I'm Kara, a mom of 8-year-old twins who both have special needs. My daughter has a lot of medical issues and is delayed in all areas, while my son has Autism, ADHD, fine motor delays, and asthma. Every day is an adventure for us, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
I started this blog because I wanted to share my experiences with others who might relate and find encouragement in our journey. It can be tough when you're trying to deal with your kids' medical, physical, emotional, and financial needs, no matter what their abilities are. It's hard, man! Sometimes I just want to give up, but I keep going because I'm all they have. If I don't fight for them, who will?
I didn't know I was going to have kids with special needs until they were born. But once I knew, I jumped right in. Like with everything else in life, I just gotta roll with it and do the best I can. You do research, talk to doctors, pray, and in between all that, you still gotta do laundry, cook dinner, give meds, change diapers, and spend time with your kids. Oh, and don't forget about taking care of yourself. It can be overwhelming, to say the least.
So after 8 years of caring for my daughter, with all the hospital stays, insurance battles, and just trying to get the info I need to care for her, I decided to share what I've learned with others. I don't know everything, but if I've been through something that could help someone else and save them even a little bit of stress, I'm happy to do that. This journey is tough, and I believe we need to help each other whenever we can.
